The Eliot Jumper - or ‘Gansey’ jumper - in midnight navy takes its name from novelist and poet Mary Anne Evans, aka George Eliot. With a truly Midlands upbringing, Eliot regularly visited and stayed in the Peak District. In fact, many of her novels were written while visiting the area ("Silas Marner" was written in a picturesque cottage in Wirksworth, Derbyshire). Not only that, the Midlands proved to be a regular inspiration to her when writing her novels and creating their characters.

Ganseys (or ‘Guernseys’, from which they take their name) are steeped in maritime history, and proved invaluable clothing for sailors and fishermen, being both incredibly warm and quick-drying. These clothes are very important in vintage clothing.

Our ganseys have dropped shoulders and a traditional square stand-up collar.
