The Mayne Jersey takes its name from Lieutenant Colonel Robert Blair 'Paddy' Mayne.
Mayne was a talented Rugby player, touring with the British & Irish Lions in 1938, and playing for the Irish national team. A founding member of the Special Air Service, he destroyed forty-seven enemy aircraft – a record for the most enemy aircraft destroyed in a single action - despite being neither a member of the Royal Air Force, or even a pilot!
The Mayne Jersey has burgundy and navy stripes across the body, and proudly sports the Stanley Biggs Aero Club crest on the left breast.
